A FRIENDLY STUDIO WITH NO QUALIFIED TEACHERS WHERE YOU GET LITTLE TRAINING?

A STUIOD WHERE YOU ARE JUST A NUMBER , THE TRAINING IS HARD AND THE TEACHERS ARE VERY QUALIFIED?

My daughters are at a studio where there are not a lot of students, but there is tremendous focus on technique and the kids are expected to give it their all!

Well if those are truly your ONLY choices I'd say go with the training. If you are well trained with talented choreographers then even if you are in the back row you are still in the back row of an amazing dance. And that's pretty darn good. When you dance with excellent people, you push yourself to become better.

(Unless all you want to do is have fun. Then go with the nice, friendly place.)

I would not chose either. You need a combination of both.

Believe me I have looked around and maybe you feel there is such a studio out there but I know there isn't.

I guess that is why some kids just quit.

When you are a little kid, its important to learn to LOVE to dance and perform because it is that love of dance that will keep you going through all the sore muscles and negative criticism and long days at the studio and jealous people etc etc.

When you become a certain age however, you need to make a choice ie are you in it because you love to dance or are you in it to be loved? Because if you are looking for a profession where you will always find nice, polite people, encouraging you all along, offering you friendly advice, building you up -- then don't choose ANYTHING in the performing arts.

Imagine the National Ballet of Canada corps dancer who has spent her life getting bloodied toes and eating next to nothing to end up just one of the girls in the background?

Think of the hundreds, THOUSANDS of people who show up for an audition and are simply told "thank you very much" with no feedback and no reason. Most dancers/actors/singers get only a tiny fraction of what they audition for and they are all highly trained and experienced at what they do.

Imagine working your whole life to dance but you don't get a job because your "body type isn't right" or you are "too ethnic"?

All I'm saying is that if you are old enough to know the difference, get the training you need, work hard and forget all the ego-stroking because an artists life is full of rejection and you need to be thick-skinned enough to take it OR ... just do it for fun....
